The Regina Local of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers was originally certified on September 23 rd 1965. We now represent approximately 450 postal workers in Regina and area; full-time, part-time and temporary. Our members work for Canada Post in a variety of classifications and on different shifts. We represent Mail Service Couriers, Letter Carriers, Postal Clerks in mail processing, revenue verification and retail, Rural and Suburban Mail Carriers, Mail Handlers, Despatchers, and Maintenance workers in mechanized equipment and vehicle mechanics, electronics and store supplies.
There are two bargaining
units and two collective agreements with Canada Post to administer,
both expiring in 2011. There is the Urban Postal Operations
collective agreement and the Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier's
collective agreement. The Local has 36 shop stewards and 8
local executive committee members. We have 10 members trained
through the United Way to act as union councillors (Social
Stewards) for members needing confidential referral assistance
on matters such as gambling, alcoholism, drug dependence,
and family and marital problems. The Local's President and
Secretary Treasurer are both part-time officers.
